London Underground: Re-engineering the Project Delivery Process

September 26, 2018
by Derek Hirst

To support improvements of the Metronet (now TfL) project delivery methodology, we were asked to re-engineer the Design and Engineering segment of the process.

The existing process had become insufficiently understood within the engineering community, with ambiguity, duplication and confusion beginning to take root.

Through a thorough understanding of the delivery process – gained from previous first-hand experience in many cases – and detailed engagement with senior stakeholders, profession heads, responsible discipline and process owners and engineering leaders, we dissolved the inefficiencies and unnecessary complexities to provide a clearer pathway to successful project delivery.

The new process was clearly mapped out, with tools to identify the path ahead, review and acceptance points and procedural documents to provide guidance throughout.  We completed the assignment with a roll-out and training phase to support the implementation of the new system.
